How can Data Visualization help
Combat Climate Change?

One of the goals of Climatist is to display the changes that our environment has undergone since the 20th century. Why? Studies have found that data displayed in the graphic form can have certain cognitive advantages including expanding the limited human memory and ensuring what is remembered is the relevant information.

Climatist aims to make use of this human ability so that people are able to retain and, thus, share critical information about Climate Change.

Some Noteworthy Graphs:

Combustion of fossil fuels for various industrial activities causes carbon dioxide emissions which trap the heat in the atmosphere, hence, causing global warming.

As a result of increased CO2 emissions, average surface temperatures across the globe have increased.

The graphs given below consider one of the many causes of climate change.

The graph shows CO2 Emissions (in tonnes per capita) by various countries in 2020.

2020 was a year that was beyond any of our imaginations. Even when the entire world seemed to be locked down, carbon emissions by countries like the US still reached nearly 14 tonnes per capita.

This much carbon dioxide is one of the main factors in the rising temperatures across the globe.

This graph shows the rise in average surface temperatures (in Celsius) in India, USA, and China from 1901 to 2017.

India has one of the highest surface temperatures in the world. With heat warnings issued regularly, we are in dire need of effective strategies to deal with individual effects of Climate Change.

This graph shows CO2 Emissions (in tonnes per capita) by India, China, and USA from 1960 to 2018.

Humans have made a lot of progress from where we started. Countries have become conscious of their carbon footprint, but this level is still extremely high and we need to unite to bring in change so we can help our planet heal.
